RDA Plea

Can you help please?.I am mailing you as a BHC member for my RDA group. The Stella Hancock Driving Group RDA is desperate for large ponies or cobs for RDA sessions on a Wednesday at Merrist Wood College, Worplesdon, Nr Guildford throughout the year, except the winter months Dec through to February. This is so, so worthwhile and at the moment we are stuggling with shetlands, a section A and small section C This means that our slightly heavier drivers in wheelchairs or large ambulant drivers have nothing to drive!

We have 10 carriages ranging from shetland size up to horse. So this is not a problem, just the horsepower and some very generous sole to either bring their wonderful equine to the group at 10.30. on a Wednesday until about 2.pm, or we may be able to collect, if one of our members lives close by. We would prefer owner participation if at all possible. This year we have already got two 2nds at Royal Windsor Horse Show, (with the section A) so we are a very competitive group! But, some drivers were disappointed, as our big cob is off lame at the moment. Please, could you put something on the website for me, in the hope that we might find some lovely person to help us and give them a very good feeling of helping others? Thanks!!

Training DayThanks

Would just like to say thank you to Jo and Pippa for a great training day at Rumbolds on 30/05/10, I thought it was a very well thought out format and learnt a great deal from it.
I found both Jo and Pippa’s comments during the dressage training very constructive and helpful, just need to see if I can put that into practice for the ODE on 20/06/10!
It was a good idea getting us to build our own obstacle, it certainly makes you realise it is not always as easy as people make it look and Pippa as usual bought out the competitivness in us during the ostacle driving!
I would also like to thank everyone else who helped make the day enjoyable for us all.

Rumbolds Fun Cones Day
Report and Results

Another successful event was held at Rumbolds Stud Farm on May 2nd. The weather throughout the day was atrocious, with almost non-stop rain and the wind occasionally picking up and threatening to steal our pop up gazebos (the only shelter we had)! But this didn’t stop 10 brave and fearless carriage drivers from venturing out of there warm houses!
During the morning several elements from cones courses where set up including some of the new-design slaloms. Each driver had 30mins to practice each part as thoroughly as they could, as these element would later be included in the afternoon competition!
Lunch was had sheltering under the gazebos, and it was a God-send when Nigel arrived with Teas, Coffee, Soup and snacks!
The cones course was then designed, and walked by the competitors. A steady average time was to be set by Adam Wyllie with Rooney, which would then be used as a boggy time to calculate scores. Like the indoor competitions, penalties would be gained for being faster than this time as well as slower! Competitors drove the course twice and their scores were added together to calculate the results. Luckily the weather actually held off for most of the competition and fun seemed to be had by all driving the testing course designed by Graham.

Update
Work got underway this week at Goodwood when Dick Lane & his crew started working, creating the new water splash obstacle which will be ready in time for this year's two day event in August.
Faced with clearing an area in an old copse close to the other obstacles it wasn't long before the water feature started to take shape as you will see from the 'Photos' -we will update with the progress over the next few weeks.
Many thanks to Dick for all his help in this exciting new project.

Easter Egg Drive - Report

Many members enjoyed the annual Easter eggs drive held at Farley Heath, and luckily the weather held off for us. Drivers split into two groups, the faster followed Dick Lane and the more subdued joined Jo Rennison across the heath to meet up at the Pub on the other side. As usual the Easter Bunny was around giving out eggs and taking pictures! Fun was had by all and it was nice to see the social drive so well supported.
