The Oaks Driving Club

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

Hello everyone

We have a surplus of 7 stopwatches, these have been used at our events. All in working order though some may require a new battery. They use small watch type batteries. If anyone would like one for free please contact Jan Curd to arrange collection.

Heron’s Ghyll have invited the Oaks to their quiz on Saturday 26th November at East Hoathly Village Hall, 6.30pm for 7pm. Teams of 6 or less. Bring your own snacks and drink. Please let Jan Curd know if you intend participating.

Just three weeks until our indoor competition at Plumpton College, please get your entries in. Plumpton have rearranged their car park should there be a football match so we can have more space. This is an ideal opportunity to have a practice run before ICD competitions.

There are some spaces for the Pippa Bassett clinic at Priory Court on Saturday 12th November, primarily dressage and schooling but cones and obstacle training on request. Don’t miss out on this superb opportunity.

Best wishes

Equine influenza

The following has been received from British Carriagedriving for your interest.

You may have seen that there is currently a shortage of vaccinations for equine influenza. This has arisen due to supply difficulties being experienced by one of the largest manufacturers of equine influenza vaccines, Boehringer Ingelheim. It is hoped that this will be resolved by the end of October or shortly after this date.

The British Carriagedriving Rule Book currently states in Annex 11:

1.3.4 Booster vaccinations must be administered at a maximum of 12 month intervals, the same day in each year being acceptable for these purposes, however Horses competing in Events must have received a booster within 6 months +21 days (and not within 7 days) before arrival at the Event.

British Carriagedriving, as a short term measure, are removing the requirement for a vaccination to have been administered within 6 months of the event but recommend that annual boosters are maintained. We recommend that any member in a situation where this is impossible to achieve should contact the BC office for further guidance.

We have recommended that members are extra vigilant and implement the strictest bio-security protocols when competing.

Further information will be circulated in due course.

Many thanks to Moira Evans for organising and to all the stewards and helpers - where would we be without you!

We had a fantastic day yesterday at Priory Court Farm thanks to the Cousens family. I thought it was one of the best marathon courses we have had with two permanent obstacles equal to any national event. Huge thank you to Jason Fieldwick for all his hard work. Thank you to Debbie Tatton for judging dressage and to all the stewards, catering team, scorers etc, we couldn’t run the event without you. Jan did a fantastic job organising so a big pat on the back for her too.

Congratulations to Joanna Beasley-Richards and John Baxendale who won the trophies for best Welsh ponies and Presentation.

BC 50th Anniversary Dance - November 6th

To Oaks members -  50th Anniversary Dance

As you know BC are celebrating 50 years of our great sport. There is a dinner planned for Saturday 5th November followed by the AGM on Sunday 6th November to be held at the Yew Lodge Hotel, Packington Hill, Kegworth, DE74 2DF.

To ensure we celebrate in style, we are asking all clubs to provide memorabilia (photos, article, videos) which will be used as a montage during the evening, looking back at the last 50 years and the developments that have occurred. This could include 3rd generation drivers, long serving judges, long serving stewards, awesome backsteppers, amazing young drivers, Olympiads, National stars from your club, horses of note, best events over the past 50 years. It is hoped to present the winners of various categories with a rosette on the evening, BUT we rely on YOU to provide the information first.

Please can you email anything from the above list as soon as possible to . You may also think of other categories that need to be included. Your suggestions are very welcome.

The outline of the evening will include a drinks reception, a 3 course meal, chat room for those who want to reminisce and a disco for those who want to dance the night away!

There will be tables of 10, each table having a place name of events held over the past 50 years. So, what about having a Club Table? More information on this will follow shortly BUT please save the date and pass on to club members. It’s your sport and we all want to have a great time celebrating and looking forwards to the next 50 years!

Please let me know if you require any further information.

Kind regards,

Mary Kusin
