The Oaks Driving Club

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

We have confirmation of some dates for next year’s events. As time goes by some drives and more training days will be added. All entries for 2023 will be online only.

We hope you will all come to the AGM in February, it will be my last meeting and I will hand over the reins to Jan Curd who has agreed to be temporary Chairman for one year. I know the club will be in safe hands with Jan at the helm. We do need more people to serve on the committee, it is great fun and we always manage to have a laugh despite taking the club very seriously.

Please could everyone who won a trophy at last years AGM return them, polished and (hopefully) engraved to Jan before the end of December.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Committee Resignations

It is after many hours of thought and consideration that I have resigned as Chairman, Director and from the Oaks committee as of 31st December 2022.

I have served on the committee for thirteen years and as your Chairman for seven years. During that time I have given my apologies for absence only once from a committee meeting. I have absolutely loved being part of the running of the club but now is the time for me to devote myself to other interests, it would be impossible for me to give 100% to them all but I hope you feel I have given everything I could during my term of office.

I will always support the Oaks club and would be delighted to help out sometimes at events.

Moira is also leaving the committee on 31st December.

She has been an excellent Vice-Chairman and has organised and run many very successful events for the club. Moira will be greatly missed though she has offered to help on occasion and will be running the popular Le Trec competition at Burchetts Farm. I know we all thank her very much for all she has done for the club.

The committee is now dwindling. We need YOUR HELP. The committee meets on the third Thursday of each month at Hailsham. New committee members are wanted if the club is to continue. Please speak to any of the committee if you think you can spare a few hours, it’s great fun and you will be met with open arms, don’t be shy!

Best wishes
