The Oaks Driving Club

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

19th November 2017

Broad Oak Village Hall

Please see the minutes from last years AGM, it would be very helpful if you would bring these to the meeting on 19th November. Dick Carey has agreed to give a short talk which will be very interesting and Margaret has kindly made and donated a lovely cake to be raffled. Along with the annual awards presentation and free buffet supper, this will be a most enjoyable evening.

Just as a matter of interest, Alex at Golden Cross Equestrian Centre is getting rid of the potholes in front of the indoor school. For those of us who go to Golden Cross this will be a huge improvement but for the time being please do not linger outside the front of the arena, just drive slowly in and out as the surface has to settle and bed down. Also for those of you who have shown an interest in the huge new outdoor arena, it is NOT available for carriage driving nor will it be in the immediate future. This is because it has a membrane under the surface and this could easily get damaged by carriage wheels, especially if driven over at speed.

I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM

Training Bursary

As mentioned in October's newsletter, the Oaks have been awarded a training bursary from British Carriage Driving and we have decided to put some of this towards a training day at Golden Cross on Wednesday 8th November with International driver Sara Howe.

There are 8 only places available for a 45 minute session with the cost being a subsidised £25.00 per person.

Places will be on a first come basis with the first 8 cheques received by Liz Howe,  91 Denton Road, Newhaven, Sussex. BN9 0QD.  Telephone reservations will NOT be accepted.

This is a unique members only opportunity - don't miss out!

- IMPORTANT - please read carefully

Insurance - By becoming a member of the Oaks Driving Club you are automatically covered by third party insurance to drive at Oaks Driving Club events only via the club’s affiliation to British Carriagedriving. You will only be covered if you stay within the confines of the event, ie private farm or equestrian centre. This insurance will NOT cover you whilst driving at home, therefore we strongly recommend that you acquire private insurance for use at home or on the public highway.

Non members will be required to produce evidence of insurance in the drivers name BEFORE participating at an Oaks event. (Photocopies and scans via email accepted)

By becoming a member of the Oaks Driving Club you could save approximately £50 per year in entry fees.

Membership has stayed the same price for yet another year!
