The Oaks Driving Club


 

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

 

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

We are taking late entries to the ODE next Saturday August 20th. If anyone fancies coming along. We have a lovely trophy for the best presentation so dig out your apron and smart hat and be in with a chance of winning it. Only the obstacles will be timed, not the whole marathon course.

 

Sunday 4th September - World Cup, Hale Farm.

Schedule for our indoor competition at Plumpton on 8th October on 'Events' page. Those doing ICD may like a dry run at the new test before the qualifiers start.

Hello

 

Last Wednesday a team went to Plumpton Racecourse to meet the Southdown East Pony Club. Ponies Buttons, Echo and Billy worked hard demonstrating the cones course and instructing the pony club members on backstepping. Thank you, Bella, Susanne Willis, Helen Bridges, Jan Curd, Jane Cook and Sonya Norman for coming with me. It’s important to encourage young drivers into the sport of Carriagedriving, we hope to see them again.

 

Several drivers enjoyed the Oaks drive, rather hot weather though. Thank you for overseeing the drive Moira and thank you to Mary Hindle’s parents for the parking field.

 

Get your entries in now for our ODE at Priory Court on 20th August. Late entries will be taken £5 extra after closing date. Approximately 2.5km marathon, unfortunately the water complex is bone dry but an exciting course will be designed. Schedule on 'Events' page.

As there is so much on in the south-east during September we have moved our ODE to Saturday 20th August at Priory Court Farm, Sayerland Lane.

BC 50th Anniversary Dance - November 6th

 

To Oaks members -  50th Anniversary Dance

 

As you know BC are celebrating 50 years of our great sport. There is a dinner planned for Saturday 5th November followed by the AGM on Sunday 6th November to be held at the Yew Lodge Hotel, Packington Hill, Kegworth, DE74 2DF.

To ensure we celebrate in style, we are asking all clubs to provide memorabilia (photos, article, videos) which will be used as a montage during the evening, looking back at the last 50 years and the developments that have occurred. This could include 3rd generation drivers, long serving judges, long serving stewards, awesome backsteppers, amazing young drivers, Olympiads, National stars from your club, horses of note, best events over the past 50 years. It is hoped to present the winners of various categories with a rosette on the evening, BUT we rely on YOU to provide the information first.

Please can you email anything from the above list as soon as possible to Jenny.woodward@printedcupcompany.com . You may also think of other categories that need to be included. Your suggestions are very welcome.

The outline of the evening will include a drinks reception, a 3 course meal, chat room for those who want to reminisce and a disco for those who want to dance the night away!

There will be tables of 10, each table having a place name of events held over the past 50 years. So, what about having a Club Table? More information on this will follow shortly BUT please save the date and pass on to club members. It’s your sport and we all want to have a great time celebrating and looking forwards to the next 50 years!
