The Oaks Driving Club

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

If anyone has any amusing stories or tales of meeting HRH Duke of Edinburgh or any photos, please email them to me to be included in the Oaks special tribute to HRH in the next newsletter. Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone

I’m afraid there is no Oaks February newsletter, on the account of having nothing to report! Covid 19 has a lot to answer for.

I hope you are all keeping safe and well. Our March 13th driving competition depends on what directive the PM announces in the middle of February as to whether we are allowed to get together for an event. If news is good then rest assured we will hit the ground running and start taking entries. At the moment it’s all in the lap of the Gods.

If you won a trophy at our AGM in 2020 you may enjoy it for another year but please return to Jan Curd by end November 2021.

We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Pat Sowerby and Barry Marshall, both great horsemen and friends to many in the Oaks club, we extend our condolences to their families.

Congratulations to Susannah Anderson on a lovely article about her yard in last weeks Horse and Hound.

Please see the club accounts for 2020 for your perusal, expertly produced by Claire Cousens:

Balance Sheet

Profit and Loss

The club is in a healthy state. All who joined for 2020 have a years free membership until 31st December 2021. British Carriagedriving have given us a £73 reduction on what we pay for insurance which is a help to finances.

Other non club events: ICD Championships 2021 cancelled. Heathfield show cancelled. South of England show, no equine show classes, only show jumping and limited cattle and sheep, rest of show going ahead. Hickstead going ahead.

Hope to see you all soon.
