The Oaks Driving Club

The Oaks Driving Club was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to provide the opportunity for carriage drivers to meet and show their turnouts locally. We cover the East Sussex area.

No matter what you drive, how little or much experience you have, even if you don't drive, you can be assured of a warm welcome at The Oaks Driving Club.

ODE - Cancelled

After much thought and consideration were are cancelling our ODE next Sunday at Sayerlands.

We have had a very poor response for this event with, to date:- 9 for the full day + 2 for the dressage/cones. Eleven competitors do not completely cover the costs of the venue hire + loo hire, let alone general expenses, and this does not include all the time and effort spent in planning and preparation, paperwork, recruiting stewards etc.

Money is not the be all and end all but given that the committee would be setting up the event from 9am until 4pm on the Saturday and be on site from 8am until approx 5.30pm on Sunday all for your enjoyment, it is very disappointing.

Perhaps this is not the type of competition members want, in which case, as a club, we could stick to just easy "fun type" events. This would mean anyone wanting to move on with their driving towards nation events will need to use alternative events which would necessitate considerable travelling.

Please let the committee know your thoughts on this before we start planning for 2020.

Thank you to the few who did show support, believe you me this decision was not taken lightly.
