We sadly lost our boy Merlin to cancer in December 2006, but we have his great grandson Zulu to carry on the line. We also have several daughters, and granddaughters as well!.
We bought Merlin as a 7 week old puppy from Janet Parker of the Rejan affix; He was "Pick of the Litter" and he has certainly lived up to expectations, we bought him mainly as our foundation stud dog as we wanted to improve colour (he was one of the darkest reds at the time), type and movement too. We had already owned our bitch line for 11 years, but didn't feel ready to keep a male with our bitches until our children were a little older. He was used on a number of bitches and achieved about a 95% good ridge record! Most of his puppies are his dark colour with very little black or white markings either. He had the sweetest temperament too which he passed on to all his progeny. He had an excellent hip score of 2/2 and an elbow score of 0.
Merlin was only lightly shown due to our other commitments, but when he was shown he usually did well!
At his last show, the
Hound Show in 2005, he won "Best
Veteran" under judge Harry Brown, who wrote
"Ellis' Rejan Zoah Zejak, 9 year old red wheaten, well muscled and
still in good hard condition, sound head, good reach, strong front,
chest deep and well sprung, well angulated, moved very well".
He won Reserve Challenge Certificate at Richmond Championship Show,
under Judge Kirsteen Maidment. He also won Open Dog at
Bath under Andrew Brace, who wrote in his critique,
"Strong, happy dog - slightly long cast, but wholly typical and very nicely constructed. Moderately angulated, excellent head type, moved out well" - a very nice win!
Merlin "did" the Munster Circuit in Ireland in 2003 & 2004, and both years won a Green Star, The first under Mr Eddie Patterson, and the 2nd under Mr Rick Fehler from Canada. So; he is halfway to being an Irish Champion!
